Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory lift CBS, but ESPN wins the night with Monday Night Football 2009/12/23 17:47:12

A couple of comedy repeats on CBS were broadcasting’s biggest programs Monday night.

Two and a Half Men” entertained 10.8 million, and “The Big Bang Theory” had 10 million laughing,  according to updated ratings released this afternoon.

But Disney-owned ESPN had the night’s best showing with “Monday Night Football.” The New York Giants’ victory over the Washington Redskins averaged an audience of 11.3 million. ESPN said it was the fifth time “Monday Night Football” had placed first on a Monday night this season.

CBS was the most-watched broadcast network as well as the favorite of young adults. In prime time, CBS averaged 8.2 million viewers, outpacing NBC with 6.8 million, Disney-owned ABC with 5.1 million, Fox with 4.5 million and The CW with 770,000.

At 8, NBC’s “Sing-Off” was the early winner and averaged 7.3 million over two hours. ABC was second with “I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown” delivering 5.9 million. It edged the CBS comedies “How I Met Your Mother” (5.6 million) and “Accidentally on Purpose” (5.4 million). A “House” rerun on Fox was the medicine for 4.9 million.

At 9, the competition was far behind the CBS comedies and “The Sing-Off.” ABC’s “Find My Family” found 4.8 million viewers. A “Lie to Me” rerun convinced 4.1 million for Fox.

At 10, CBS was in front with a “CSI: Miami” rerun rounding up 8.6 million viewers. A fresh “Jay Leno Show” amused 5.8 million for NBC. A “Castle” rerun charmed 4.4 million for ABC.
