NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker told financial analysts Monday that the ailing NBC network is exploring the possibility of reducing its prime-time schedule.
"Can we continue to program 22 hours of prime time? Can we afford to program seven nights a week?" Zucker told analysts at a media conference. "We are actively looking at all of those questions."
The fourth-place network, down 13% this season, announced a reorganization that will combine network programming operations with those of its sister production studio.
Angela Bromstad, who has headed NBC's international studio in London since last year, will return to Los Angeles as president of prime-time entertainment, overseeing scripted series at both operations, while Paul Telegdy of BBC Worldwide Americas (Dancing With the Stars) will oversee reality programming and specials.
A broad swath of NBC programming executives — including studio chief Katherine Pope, prime-time development head Teri Weinberg and reality chief Craig Plestis — were dismissed Friday, among 500 layoffs at the parent company.
