Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn were box-office winners again as "Four Christmases" rang in the holiday season at the top of moviegoers' lists for the second week in a row.
The romantic comedy, about a couple dividing their holiday among their divorced parents, earned a "Bah, humbug!" from critics but raked in $18.2 million over the weekend.
"It's an evergreen subject for the holiday period," said analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
Despite dire news elsewhere in the economy, Hollywood continued to outperform last year's holiday season, with revenues up for the fifth weekend in a row.
A former chart-topper, the vampire romance "Twilight," moved up one place to No. 2 with $13.2 million in its third weekend, swapping places with Disney's canine cartoon "Bolt," which was No. 3 with $9.7 million in its third weekend.
The fourth and fifth place films also swapped places. After a disappointing start last weekend, positive word-of-mouth pushed the Nicole Kidman epic "Australia" to No. 4 with $7 million.
The James Bond thriller "Quantum of Solace" dropped to No. 5 with $6.6 million.
