Greed is still good for (disappointing) ticket sales.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Oliver Stone's sequel to his 1987 financial thriller, pulled in $19 million to win the weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
Still, the film — originally planned for a spring release — underperformed expectations, though it marked the best debut ever for one of Stone's films.
The Wall Street follow-up, starring Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf, bumped last week's winner, The Town ($16 million), to third place behind Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, which drew $16.3 million in its first week. The Town, which stars and was directed by Ben Affleck, brought its cumulative total to $49 million.
Easy A brought in an addition $10.7 in its second week to take fourth place, and newcomer You Again, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver, drew $8.3 million for fifth place.
Rounding out the top 10: Devil ($6.5 million), Resident Evil: Afterlife ($4.5 million), Alpha and Omega ($4.7 million), Takers ($1.7 million), and Inception ($1.2 million).
