Michael Chiklis was a producer on the last few seasons of The Shield, and now the actor looks to continue his behind-the-scenes work, as he develops a new series at FX called House of Cards, says the Hollywood Reporter. The project will sound familiar to anyone familiar with the Bernard Madoff scandal – which has involved Wall Street businessman Madoff arrested and charged with securities fraud in what is traditionally referred to as a Ponzi scheme.
A Ponzi scheme involves a few select participants gaining wealth via the investment of contributors who they are scamming, while making it seem like there is growth thanks to the business the contributors thought they were getting involved in. This is a rather personal subject for Chiklis, who admits he was the victim of a Ponzi scheme himself, which he inadvertently brought friends into, believing he was helping them.
Chiklis will executive produce but not star in House of Cards - The Reporter notes that the search is on for a showrunner.
