According to fourth judge Kara DioGuardi, we have some shocking Susan Boyle style moments coming our way during season 9 of American Idol. In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, where DioGuardi discussed her song-writing process and how she became the fourth American Idol judge, DioGuardi promised there is some shocking talent in store for us.
When asked what season 9 had in store, DioGuardi said, "I would say that there were more than a few times this season that someone walked in and sang and I was shocked that they didn't have the appearance to have that voice. It was just kind of a "Whoa, where did that come from? Hold up." It's like Susan Boyle."
Considering the YouTube phenomenon and record sales machine that sweet Scottish Su-Bo became, I'm sure that American Idol hopes that what Kara says isn't just lip-service. Of course, if Idol is going to find the next Susan Boyle, it's going to have to steer away from the previous ruling Idol logic of the package needing to be as pretty as the voice it's selling. Perhaps season 9 will be the season of the everyman/woman triumphing? We'll just have to tune in next week, when American Idol auditions get going to see.
