ABC has announced the debut dates for two new comedies this spring, and in the process, another new timeslot for Scrubs.
Better Off Ted, featuring Arrested Development's Portia de Rossi, will premiere on Wednesday, March 18th at 8:30pm. Beginning that night, it will be paired with Scrubs, which will air at 8:00. Scrubs is currently airing back-to-back episodes Tuesday nights at 9:00. This is the first season Scrubs is airing on ABC, but the show infamously went from one timeslot to another at its old home on NBC.
ABC will then debut In the Motherhood on Thursday, March 16th at 8:00pm. Motherhood, starring Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) and Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), will be paired with another ABC comedy moving to a new night - Samantha Who?.
The pairing of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who? in the Thursday, 8:00 hour is notable for a couple of reasons. One, it puts two ABC comedies directly against NBC's My Name is Earl and Kath & Kim. Two, it marks a hiatus for Ugly Betty, which is being put on hold for several weeks, while the network tries the comedies in this timeslot, likely with the hopes of finding a stronger lead in to their hit Grey's Anatomy.
ABC still has yet to announce a debut date for another midseason comedy, The Goode Family, the new animated series from Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head / King of the Hill).
