ABC Family has determined that "Huge" is not working for them. The teen series starring Nikki Blonsky and David Hasselhoff's daughter Hayley Hasselhoff has been canceled after one season which debuted over this summer.
"Huge" follows a group of teens from different backgrounds attending a weight loss camp as they embark on their individual journeys of self discovery. Although the weight-focused show started out pretty strong in the pilot, it suffered a rating decline by averaging 1.9 million viewers. This number is low when compared to that by ABC Family's other newbies "Pretty Little Liars" and "Melissa & Joey".
In a statement to EW, the show's creators, Winnie Holzman and Savannah Dooley, said, "First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who embraced Huge and supported it. While it's disappointing not to be able to go forward with the characters we love so much and had so many plans for, we're deeply grateful to have had this opportunity. Our goal was and is to create TV of depth and complexity that inspires people to think and feel. We believe we accomplished that with Huge and we can't wait to do it again."
Blonsky had expressed her disappointment over the cancellation, tweeting "2 all my fans who loved @#HUGE I thank u for ur support + 4 watching I love u guys and as much as u all loved Will I loved playing her!"
A lot of her followers said the show relates to teens struggling with their weight. One fan said, "they cancelled a show that was helping many plus sized girls and teens accept themselves. It sucks. :(" Blonsky responded, "To all my fans I promise I will become part of a new project and give u guys a new character to believe in and relate 2 ill never let u down."
