According to Variety, HBO is teaming up with Warner Brothers for an adaptation of the hit U.K. drama, Shameless. The creator of the series, Paul Abbott, has been in talks with several networks for a while now, trying to bring his show across the pond. At one point NBC was almost set to produce it with Woody Harrelson as the star.
Shameless is "regarded as one of the most innovative TV dramas of the past decade because of its unvarnished and sometimes hilarious take on life in the British underclass. Set on a public housing estate in the northern English city of Manchester, the skein's leading character is feckless but lovable Frank, an alcohol and drug abuser living on the margins of society who is the head of the chaotic Gallagher clan."
Paul Abbott is also known for creating the acclaimed British series State of Play, which has now been adapted into an upcoming movie starring Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams.
