This week on Chuck, our hero got his very own asset. See how he fared as the protector instead of the protected; here’s our report card for “Chuck vs. the Nacho Sampler.”
Spy Training: Chuck didn’t achieve much success in developing his asset, but he did show some serious maturation. Lying to Ellie without breaking a sweat. Shooting Manoosh (with a tranq, but still). Letting the higher-ups take his new buddy away. That’s cold, Agent Bartowski. Grade: B+
The Handlers: For once, Casey was on Chuck’s side, insisting he was ready for an asset of his own. I’m not so sure about that, but I did appreciate his acceptance of Chuck as a spy. Meanwhile, Sarah continued to coddle. Bonus points for the flashback to her POV in the series’ first episode. Grade: B
The Romance: Little to report, though Chuck was able to watch Sarah seduce Manoosh without too much flinching. I’ll consider that progress, but I’m still waiting for something (or someone) to shake things up. Grade: B-
Awesome and Ellie: Awesome’s lying transitioned from hilariously bad to legitimately upsetting—I hate it when my favorite couple fights. On the other hand, kudos for showing the toll this secret is taking. How long is Devon going to be able to keep his mouth shut? Grade: A-
Guest Stars: Kristin Kreuk got to do the slo-mo Buy More walk. (How many of these do we need?) Hannah didn’t get to do much in this episode—looks like they’re saving that for next week—but she remained adorable and intriguing. Here’s hoping Fahim Anwar reprises his role as Manoosh: Chuck needs a chance at redemption. Grade: B
