The ninth season has officially come to a close, with Lee DeWyze  taking home the title of the next "American Idol."
Last night’s American Idol finale brought exciting performances from veteran acts, visits from past contestants and of course, an awkward speech from Paula Abdul. The night also brought about a new idol in Lee DeWyze  but his victory over Crystal Bowersox begs the question, did American Idol crown the right contestant last night?

Of course, the answer to that question is largely subjective but Bowersox did appear to be the season’s favorite. Simon Cowell, in all of his omnipotence, said early in the season that Bowersox was the one to beat. Not too long after that episode, Cowell even went on Leno and singled her out as the contestant that he liked. Now Cowell is just one of four judges but considering that he predicted the mega success of Carrie Underwood, arguably Idol’s most successful winner, early in that season, what Cowell says means something.
