Last summer, ABC's Steve McPherson mentioned several times he felt there was the potential for Scrubs to continue in some form past the current Season 8 - though it would definitely be a very different show, if not an outright spinoff, since star Zach Braff is definitely done this season.
Scrubs has now been airing for two weeks on ABC, and McPherson was asked how he felt about the performance of the show and his current thoughts about it continuing at today's ABC presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Lawrence said, "I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled for [Scrubs creator] Bill Lawrence and for all the guys on the show. It's been great for us. Another year, I don't know. I think it would be hard to do the show without Zach, but Bill and I continue to talk about it."
Scrubs debuted to decent ratings last week, but fell considerably this week – not completely unexpected, because this week, it faced American Idol. McPherson said that before any decision could be made about a continuation or spinoff," We'll have to see [how it performs] another couple of weeks, because we saw one week with no competition and one week with the biggest completion. But it's been good for us and the numbers are pleasing."
