When you think of Glee, flashy musical numbers, immense talent, attractive people, and Slushees probably come to mind. But FOX's trendy show-choir show wouldn't be any of those things without its creators, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk. Here's what the pair had to say during a recent conference call with reporters about the rest of Season 1, meeting the President, and growing up gleeky.
On the show's popularity:
Ian Brennan: We just got back from Chicago, where we filmed Oprah [before visiting] the White House. I was shocked at how poised and professional everyone has been. This has been a journey of about a year for them. You can see how some of these kids—like Chris Colfer, who is 19 years old—how poised and how awesome they are in interviews and on camera, and how much the kids like one another, and like us, at least for now. I think it’s an interesting time for them, but they all seem to be handling it really well, the publicity and the fame and all of it. I could not have been more proud of them this weekend.
On Glee's new-found ubiquity:
Brad Falchuk: I don’t know exactly what we can do about it... If the President asks you to come or Oprah asks you to come you’re not going to say no. All we can really do is keep trying to make the best stories we can and keep these characters interesting. Every at-bat is important, and we get up there and try and hit as best we can. It’s really that simple... When Ian, and I get in a room and we’re writing or when we get on the set and we’re working with the actors, none of that outside stuff really means that much.
